Abstract:
Discusses reactions to economic and social changes imposed on the Jews by the Nazi anti-Jewish acts until approximately 1941. Women adapted to the worsening social and economic conditions better than men. Besides men. Besides giving increased emotional support to their shattered families, women took to vocational retraining which enabled them to expand their financial base. Women actively assisted in the rescue of endangered family members and were more ready to employ illegal means (e.g. bribes) when necessary. Discusses the fact that more men emigrated from Germany than women. Notes that women were entitled to less aid from the communal organizations in their emigration attempts, and many women encouraged the physically endangered men to emigrate alone.
