Abstract: Examines certain aspects of the anti-Jewish struggle conducted by the Church at the end of the 13th-beginning of the 14th centuries. Missionary activities undertaken by the Church were significant only when the collaboration of the secular authorities was ensured. Mentions the debates and sermons forced upon the Jews, and the tense relations between Jews and converts. The latter were often the most vehement instigators of action against the Jewish community. The papal Inquisition in both Catalonia and Aragón prosecuted Jews on charges of committing anti-Christian acts. States that at times Jews were openly aggressive and daring, particularly in their efforts to persuade converts to return to Judaism and to give them shelter - an act punishable by death, and gives examples of individual cases. Pp. 406-410 contain the texts of six Latin documents with English summaries.
