Abstract: Despite the long struggle to eliminate racism, it is still very much with us. Since 9/11, racism appears to be on the rise, making it more important than ever before to understand the meaning of race and the effect it has on society. Author Alana Lentin maps the emergence and development of ideas about race through political history right up to modern debates about multiculturalism and Islamophobia, and considers the implications of a “post-racial” society at a time when science has shifted focus to genetics over culture. Provocative and intelligent reading for the newcomer and expert alike, this invaluable resource exposes the roots of racial thought and demonstrates why it has remained crucial to our everyday lives.

Abstract: The medieval Christian attitude towards Jews included a pervasive fear of violence enacted against Christians. Many Christians believed that Jews committed crimes against Christian children, Christ’s body and the Eucharist, leading them to conclude that Jews were out to destroy their religion and way of life. They retaliated with expulsions, riots and murders that systematically denied Jews the right to religious freedom and peace. Feeling Persecuted exposes the violence enacted by the Jews in the imaginations of Christians and how the images of this Christian suffering and persecution were central to medieval ideas of love, community and home. Images and texts from the period reveal a surprising practice of recreational persecution of Jews and show that the violence perpetrated against medieval Jews was far from simple anti-Semitism; it was in fact a complex part of medieval life and culture. This comprehensive look at medieval poetry, drama, visual culture, theology and philosophy makes Feeling Persecuted an important read for anyone interested in the history of Christian–Jewish relations and the impact of this history on modern culture.

Abstract: This volume locates the contemporary study of Antisemitism and Islamophobia squarely within the fields of race and racism. As such, it challenges the extent to which discussion of the racialization of these minorities remains unrelated to each other, or is explored in distinct silos as a series of internal debates. By harnessing the explanatory power of long-established organizing concepts within the study of race and racism, this collection of articles makes a historically informed, theoretical and empirical contribution to aligning these analytical pursuits. The collection brings together a range of perspectives on this subject, including a comparison between Islamophobia in early modern Spain and twenty-first century Europe, an examination of the "new Antisemitism", and an analysis of online anti-Muslim and Antisemitic jokes.

Abstract: Colonialism, Antisemitism, and Germans of Jewish Descent in Imperial Germany examines the relationship between the colonial and antisemitic movements of modern Germany from 1871 to 1918, examining the complicated ways in which German antisemitism and colonialism fed off of and into each other in the decades before the First World War. Author Christian S. Davis studies the significant involvement with and investment in German colonialism by the major antisemitic political parties and extra-parliamentary organizations of the day, while also investigating the prominent participation in the colonial movement of Jews and Germans of Jewish descent and their tense relationship with procolonial antisemites. Working from the premise that the rise and propagation of racial antisemitism in late-nineteenth-century Germany cannot be separated from the context of colonial empire, Colonialism, Antisemitism, and Germans of Jewish Descent in Imperial Germany is the first work to study the dynamic and evolving interrelationship of the colonial and antisemitic movements of the Kaiserreich era. It shows how individuals and organizations who originated what would later become the ideological core of National Socialism ̶ racial antisemitism ̶ both influenced and perceived the development of a German colonial empire predicated on racial subjugation. It also examines how colonialism affected the contemporaneous German antisemitic movement, dividing it over whether participation in the nationalist project of empire building could furnish patriotic credentials to even Germans of Jewish descent. The book builds upon the recent upsurge of interest among historians of modern Germany in the domestic impact and character of German colonialism, and on the continuing fascination with the racialization of the German sense of self that became so important to German history in the twentieth century.

Abstract: What if anything they ever said about Jews was true? Postmodern satire that hilariously addresses Jewish badness through the ages, from the editors of the magazineThe New York Times calls the epicenter of "all things hipster-Jewish and ironic". Spanning the history of Western Civilization, each of these assertions is explored in turn, including: Ancient Jewish Conspiracies: How Moses led the Exodus so Jews would later have a justification for establishing the state of Israel Medieval Jewish Conspiracies: How Blood Libel began after an unfortunate baking accident resulted in the tastiest Matzoh ever Jewish Conspiracies during the Enlightenment: Upset by lack of opportunity for Jews in Bourbon France, entrepreneurs turn culottes into an unaffordable craze, leaving the sans-culottes thirsty for revolution Modern Jewish Conspiracies: The invention of psychoanalysis as a way to hypnotize wealthy and powerful Gentiles Post-Modern Conspiracies: Jews invent fast food to turn buff, sports-playing Gentiles into doughy copies of the average Jewish accountant's physique And that's not all!**Why the Jews invented and still run Hollywood**World War II as a brilliant coup that got Jews accepted into mainstream American society**How circumcision became a widespread "health procedure**Why the Jews were behind 9/11 "You know what they say: two Jews, three conspiracies." -author Joshua Neuman
