Abstract:
Notes that recent revived forms of anti-Zionism have analogies to classical European antisemitism. One obvious similarity involves calls for a social, cultural (specifically academic), and economic boycott of Israel, which recalls the Nazi boycott of Jews. Another manifestation is the branding of Israel as a pariah at international forums, such as in Durban in 2001. Stresses that Western media use identical methods, arguments, and techniques of racist antisemitism. Remarks on the irony of the importation of European antisemitism into the Middle East and the Islamicization of anti-Jewish conspiracy theories. There has been a globalization of antisemitism, linked with anti-Americanism. Europe has seen a weakening of taboos against antisemitism; comparing Zionism with Nazism has helped Europeans relativize the Holocaust and, thus, reduce their own guilt. Arguments that attack the legitimacy of the Jewish state are common to Europeans and Arabs, who both justify terror against Israel.
