Abstract:
Rendering אחרית not as “end,” but as “that which comes after,” has the advantage that all shades of meaning are kept open, with the effect that every reader of the Hebrew text of Ben Sira is able to make up her/his mind about which meaning should fit: “the near future,” “the distant future,” “the end of one’s life,” “posterity/descendants,” “finally,” or even “consequence.”
