Abstract: The Jewish Home, Joodse Invalide The Jewish Hospital and Home moved into its new premises in 1938, on the corner of Nieuwe Achtergracht and Weesperplein. The society sponsoring the Jewish Hospital was founded in 1911 by rabbi Meyer de Hond, in order to provide shelter for frail and elderly Jews within a Jewish environment. Initially situated on Nieuwe Keizersgracht, the society moved in 1926 to Nieuwe Achtergracht. Many years were spent collecting the necessary funds and radio appeals were broadcast asking for donations. Finally, on the brink of World War II, there was enough to pay for the new building on Weesperplein.
