    Abstract: Unter den Propagandafilmen aus der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus gilt Veit Harlans antisemitischer Spielfilm „Jud Süß” von 1940 als besonders berüchtigt. Als ideologische Begleitung im Zuge der Ermordung der europäischen Juden konzipiert, war der Film auch nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges Gegenstand juristischer Auseinandersetzungen und kontroverser Debatten, insbesondere um seinen Regisseur Veit Harlan, der jegliche persönliche Verantwortung für das Ausmaß der antisemitischen Hetze bestritt. Bill Niven zeichnet die Entstehungsgeschichte von „Jud Süß” im Kontext der von Joseph Goebbels gesteuerten nationalsozialistischen Filmpolitik nach. Ein besonderes Augenmerk legt er auf die Rezeption nach 1945. So wurde der Film, der in Deutschland von einer öffentlichen Verbreitung ausgeschlossen ist, von dubiosen Händlern ins Ausland verkauft und etwa in arabischen Staaten zur antisemitischen Propaganda eingesetzt. Mit Blick auf die Gegenwart setzt sich Niven mit der Frage auseinander, wie ein zeitgemäßer Umgang mit dem Film angesichts seiner weitestgehend freien Zugänglichkeit im Internet aussehen könnte.
