Abstract:
Describes deportation as one of the methods used by the Third Reich to solve "the Jewish question" in Europe, and the course and character of the expulsions and deportations executed during the Nazi period. Analyzes the effects of the deportations - firstly, the destruction of Jewish civilization in Central-Eastern Europe, and secondly, the consequences for Poland's socio-economic structure and cultural life. For example, before World War II, half of all the lawyers in Poland were Jews. Mentions the lack of correlation between the degree of antisemitism in regions from which the Jews were deported and the extent of the deportations.
