Abstract:
On Hebrew-language poetry written by Moshe Shlomo Ben-Meir (né Tershansky, 1897-1958), who was born in Goniondz (near Białystok), lived in Antwerp between 1924-40, and then emigrated to the U.S.A. The poems he wrote between 1941-44 invert traditional accounts of the Exodus story to express his sense of powerlessness and loss of faith in covenantal promises in light of the events of the Holocaust.
