Abstract:
Draws a parallel between the preoccupation of 7th-century Byzantine rulers and clergy with "the Jewish problem" and how it blinded them to the far greater danger posed by the Arabs and Islam, and the way that the Western world today is being distracted from the danger of Islam by concern about dangers posed by Jews and the Jewish state. Contends that the disproportion between Christian attitudes toward Jews and toward Muslims in the present day is a legacy of traditional Christian antisemitism.
