Abstract:
In this chapter I explore maps of the Holy Land as instruments for conceptualizing topography in terms of the cultural significance of the biblical land for both Christian and Jewish societies. Focusing on several examples devised by Christian and Jewish artists between the sixth and the eighteenth century, I look at the various narratives for the biblical topography that we find on the maps and their potential for supporting Christian and Jewish religious values and cultural identities.
