Abstract:
Examines the rescue activities of the religious Zionist movements - including the Mizrahi, Hapoel Hamizrahi, Tse'irei Mizrahi, Bnei Akiva, and Hashomer Hadati, which were united in the World Union of Torah va-Avodah (with its main office in Eretz-Israel) - as reflected in the activities of their branches and of their deputies in the Zionist and other Jewish communal organizations in Eretz-Israel. The failure of the religious Zionist movements to help their members in the Nazi-occupied territories may be partly explained by inadequate representation in the Zionist and other organizations, as well as limited influence on the rescue activities initiated by these bodies. However, they failed to initiate independent activities, apparently due to the immersion of their few members in Israel-centered projects - e.g. to settle the land and develop it for the absorption of their members after the war.
