Abstract: In December 1941 Romanian authorities dissolved the Jewish Federation of Community Unions and replaced it with the Jewish Center (Centrala Evreilor din Romania, CE), fully subordinated to the government. The CE had to publish its weekly "Gazeta evreiască" in order publicize the laws and official orders concerning the Jews, as well as its own decisions. In particular, "Gazeta evreiască" always referred to anything connected to the organization of forced labor of Jews. It had to ask the Jews to comply with the orders, and to warn that failure to report for forced labor could entail brutal punishments on them and their families. It had to justify government measures for the expansion of the forced labor system, e.g. imposing forced labor on Jews between 15-18 years of age in 1942, and imposing it on women in 1943. The publications in the pages of "Gazeta evreiască" illustrate the compliant attitude adopted by the CE.
