Abstract:
The discovery of three different early modern (but with late medieval content?) Cairene MSS in Judeo-Spanish, whose codicological independence from each other is clear because of differences in paleography, mise en page and textual variants, justifies a return to the motif of “the mother who ate her child”. A translation into English of the MS fragments is followed by comparisons with e.g. Near Eastern and Greco-Roman sources. Attention is paid to the new unprecedented elements in the Genizah texts and an attempt to contextualize them is made.
Note:
The article includes a translation of the discussed texts.
